QuickBooks Point of Sale & MLB

Submitted by Will on August 15, 2013

More and more companies are implementing the QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) system and accounting software. We are excited to say that several Major League Baseball (MLB) teams are not only using QBPOS but are clients of English Management Solutions, Inc. (EMS).  There’s a lot going on with the MLB teams and they need to be assured that they have the software and equipment necessary to manage their activities. Each team has been a pleasure to work with!

We continue to expand our reach to a variety of businesses. QBPOS is an effective solution for more than just a retail store. Every company is different, so it’s important that the system is set-up to accommodate the particular business needs of each customer. Yes, there are some similarities between certain companies which include the business type, daily tasks, the equipment that’s needed and which software features they want/need to maximize, but we don’t make assumptions. We have detailed conversations with each client making the appropriate recommendations, and we work with them for ongoing support.

Here’s a quote from one of the MLB teams Assistant Clubhouse Manager:
"We have used the QuickBooks Point of Sale system for over three years now. With English Management’s fantastic customer service and training along with the excellent product QuickBooks offers, I couldn't see us managing our inventory any other way. I would compare it to having power windows on a car, then later buying a car without power windows! One of the major benefits this system offers to us is at any time we can look into our previous history and see what equipment we have issued to our players. So whenever we have a player that was with us at some point, then goes to the Minor Leagues and returns at a later time, we can just go into his past history to see all the items he was issued and then we can issue him new equipment before he even arrives.”

  2. Very important for those who use the Intuit add-on services and live support:  Don’t forget that on Fri. If you use their add-on services and/or live support, you should upgrade by May 31st. And Will English always suggest that although you may not use any of the Intuit connected services, if you were to have a data issue, Intuit will not support you once they discontinue the software version.

*Please read our blog titled Intuit Service Discontinuation 2013 HERE. There’s also a document at the bottom of that page that list the products affected by this service discontinuation.

We’ve sent out email notifications to our clients and those on our contacts list, and kept website viewers updated. EMS Week in Review

Submitted by Will on May 03, 2013

We’ve transitioned from April to May and find ourselves at the end of another work week. Was your week busy and productive?

Don't miss this month's promotions. From a FREE hardware bundle to no set up fee for your Intuit Merchant Services to the most robust of the QuickBooks products, there is a solution for every business! Learn More.

Even though Will was not on the road too much this week, he was equally as busy with local clients as well as conducting phone and remote support sessions.  Our office staff maintained a constant work flow with our Bookkeeping clients, current QuickBooks clients and prospective clients. One of our new clients is having a library built but it’s still in the construction phase. The manager wants to go ahead and start working with the QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) to become familiar with it, enter inventory, etc., so Will installed the QBPOS software on her laptop for the time being. Once the building is completed, he will set-up and install all of the equipment (which includes computers, peripheral devices that are used at the register, and the POS software) and train the staff on using the software.  They also received a copy of the QuickBooks POS Store Operations handbooks to have as a quick resource by the register. You can learn more about this valuable guide by clicking HERE.

Product demonstrations are a great way for customer’s to see the functionality of the software, and people like the visual presentation. When they receive the information audibly and visually, it tends to stick with them more than by listening alone. Will met with several business owners who are not yet using the QuickBooks software but are ready to take that step. They learned more about the system, got their questions answered about how it will work for their specific business needs and goals, etc. This is a part of the initial discovery visit. Some of our current clients are opening new locations so they need the software and hardware. And most prefer to work with Will for the installation so they know it is set-up and installed correctly from the beginning. Most people enjoy some surprises, like birthdays and the like, but not when it comes to their business software and equipment.

What a week for referrals! Thank you to all who have placed their confidence in us by referring our services to their friends and colleagues! We appreciate the new business and customer loyalty. Will assisted one new client with exporting out their item list and the customer vendor's from QuickBooks V.8.0 HQ to V.8.0 in one of the other locations. Another owns a chain of toy stores and they’re opening 2 more locations this year. Whether or not a customer already has the QB software we can assist them.

And Will is preparing to teach some classes at the upcoming Scaling New Heights conference. It’s an honor that he’s chosen each year to be a presenter. We’ll provide more information on this conference and the classes he’s teaching in the very near future.

EMS Week in Review & an Exciting Opportunity

Submitted by Will on April 26, 2013

We had a very busy week with a unique and very exciting opportunity!

The Big Fix. It’s a new reality TV show coming out this summer. We are all excited that Will was selected by Intuit to represent the QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) product and demonstrate it for an episode of this show. He spent about 1 hour yesterday getting miked up and being filmed. There was a lot of interruption while he was performing the demonstration, but that’s a fairly normal demo for him with the exception of being miked with a camera following him around. Will was thrilled and grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this production. Stay tuned for more post production information!

Before the day of the filming, Will assisted one of our apparel retail clients by installing the QuickBooks Point of Sale V.2013 upgrade for their multi-store environment. He did this onsite for one of the stores and completed the work remotely for the other 2 locations, one being in NY. We’re talking about 5 POS multi-store license upgrades, a new store, and new register equipment. As our customer’s needs grow and new software versions become available, we are able to make sure they not only have all the software and equipment needed but that everything is properly installed and set-up.

Since Will was out of San Diego county and had some time between the day of the multi-store installation and the filming for The Big Fix, we scheduled a few other client visits along the way as well as he stopped by a few client’s stores as a courtesy visit to see if they had any user questions and/or issues to resolve, and sure enough, he was quickly put to work! At an apparel store that also sells sunglasses and skateboards, our client had tried to upgrade their QBPOS system on their own but it failed to let the employee log back in or pull up any of their company information. They tried what they could to troubleshoot the issue but nothing worked. The good news is that they still had one main computer working so they could ring up customers and Will was able to get everything else back up and running correctly that day. His patience and knowledge was a relief for them!

The owner of a gourmet specialty food store, another client he visited, sent this kind Thank You on Wed.: “It was such a pleasure seeing you today! Thanks for thinking of us and stopping by - it was so nice. And thank you so much for helping me out with my QuickBooks today!! You are just the best. I hope business continues to go well and we'll be in touch soon, I'm sure.”

Now we say Thank You back to all of our clients and readers! Have a great weekend!

Intuit Service Discontinuation 2013

Submitted by Will on March 25, 2013

What does this mean? You may have received notification from Intuit that services to older versions of the QuickBooks products are scheduled to be discontinued on May 31, 2013.It is legitimate, and there is a lot of confusion surrounding this, but don’t panic!  We want to help clear it up. And one plug is that we also encourage you to contact us for all of your QuickBooks needs and allow us to be your QuickBooks resource! As a Certified QuickBooks ProAdvisor Consultant and Intuit Premier Reseller, Will English is capable of providing ongoing customer support for your QuickBooks needs.

Here’s what’s happening in a nutshell:

Intuit has what they call a Sunset Policy where they phase-out their older software. This means that if you are using QuickBooks software that’s currently being sunsetted (see table of products below), your software will continue to work, but your Intuit Support plan and other Intuit Services will be cancelled after May 31, 2013 if you use the plan and services. After this, you will still be able to get answers to frequently asked questions through the searchable QB knowledgebase at www.quickbooks.com/support at no extra charge, but you will no longer have access to Live Support and other Services that Intuit provides.

  • If you don't make use of Intuit's live technical support or any of Intuit's add-on services, and are happy with your current version of QuickBooks, you can continue to use it and will not be affected by this change.
  • If you are using a product affected by service discontinuation and want to maintain access to live technical support and add-on services, you'll need to upgrade to the latest version of QuickBooks as soon as possible. Please read on and review the Affected Services below.

Will English is also available to offer ongoing Customer Support even for the older versions of QB, as long as the issues are within his capability to fix. If it is an issue that has to be escalated to Intuit, we will not be able to since they'll no longer support that version. If you are interested in pricing details for the newest version please let us know.

Please open the attached document below to review the Affected Services and Table of Products.  Upgrade as soon as possible to retain access to the Intuit add-on services and live support. Contact Us Today!

This Month's QBPOS Fundamentals Webinar

Submitted by Will on March 20, 2013

Thank you to all who joined us yesterday at our QuickBooks Point of Sale (QBPOS) webinar! It started off a little bumpy due to the fact that the virtual meeting platform was not properly working and attendees had difficulty connecting to the meeting. But Will quickly came up with an alternate solution by using a different type of web portal and made sure each attendee could join in. As the saying goes, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, and no, we don’t literally skin cats around here.

Several of those who joined us yesterday were new to the QBPOS V.2013 but some have been using a previous version of the QBPOS software. It was great to have an eclectic group which we usually do. Will covered topics such as

·        Intro to POS

•       Daily Activities

–      Sales

–      End of day

–      Receiving

•       Inventory management

–      Financial Exchange

–      Overview of Inventory flow

–      Setting up inventory items

·        Using Reports and graphs

·        The Dashboard

He even included a segment at the end called Stump the Expert. People love it when they get the chance to try to stump a nationally known QuickBooks Point of Sale expert! He welcomes the questions and inquiries.

Our next POS Fundamentals Webinar will be held on Tue. May 21st from 9am-noonPST. We hope you can join us and refer a friend! In the meantime, if you have questions and/or need support with any of the QuickBooks software, hardware, and additional services, please Contact Us. We’d love to hear from you and assist you with your business needs.
